What is the Opt Out?

Under the terms of the European Working Time Directive (EWTD), worker have the right to opt out of the maximum hours limit for 48 hours, however they will remain bound to the rest requirements of the EWTD.

Can doctors Opt Out?

Yes. Any worker in the UK can opt out. Read the NHS Employers EWTD guidelines here (see page 6) and view the NHS Employers model EWTD wiaver agreement here
