Is your rota ready for the Employment Rights Act 2025?

It's one of the biggest shake-ups to employment law in years. Let's work out what it means for your workforce management.

With Employment Law and HR Specialist, Jemma Fairclough-Haynes and Rotageek's Michael Severn.

Live webinar  •  Thursday 26 November  •  10 am  •  45 minutes

What does the Employment Rights Act mean for your rota?

The Employment Rights Act 2025 is one of the biggest updates to UK workers’ rights in years. Some changes are already here, more arrive in January, and the ones that matter most to shift-based teams are expected during 2027.

Statutory sick pay (SSP) from day one is already here, and the new harassment duty started on 30 October. From January, unfair dismissal protection starts after six months instead of two years. And during 2027, zero-hours and low-hours workers are expected to gain rights to guaranteed hours, reasonable notice of shifts, and pay when shifts change at short notice.

The good news? None of it lands overnight. This webinar will help you understand the changes early, so they’re easier to plan for.

There’s a lot to keep track of, so we’ve invited someone who lives and breathes employment law. Jemma Fairclough-Haynes, CEO of Orchard Employment Law, will explain what’s changing and when, and Rotageek’s Michael Severn will host the webinar and share a Rotageek perspective on the session.

You’ll be in good company, alongside operations, HR and workforce planning leaders working through the same changes. Bring your questions: chances are someone else is wondering the same thing.

What you'll learn from this webinar

In 45 minutes, we'll move from what's changed, to what's coming, to what you can do about it. Here's what you'll take away.

  • What's already in force: day-one sick pay, longer tribunal time limits and the new harassment duty
  • Who the zero-hours reforms are likely to cover: and why the hours threshold matters more than the contract name
  • How guaranteed hours offers are expected to work: from reference periods to repeat offers
  • What "reasonable notice" of shifts could mean: and how short-notice payments are expected to work
  • What January brings: unfair dismissal protection after six months, and new limits on fire and rehire
  • Why hours worked against contract is becoming a key number: and where to find it
  • The simple steps to take now: for rotas, contracts and records, before the detail lands
  • Answers to your questions: from someone who reads the small print for a living

Save your seat

Who is this webinar for?

Built for anyone who builds, approves or lives by the rota, whether you're setting the policy, planning the hours or answering for the outcome.

  • Workforce planning leaders: responsible for scheduling, forecasting and contracted hours, where many of the changes land first
  • Operations directors: accountable for service levels and labour costs across every site
  • HR directors and people leaders: managing contracts, absence, probation and the policies behind them
  • Area and site managers: publishing and changing rotas day to day, and fielding the questions from their teams
  • Finance leaders: keeping an eye on what short-notice payments and guaranteed hours could mean for labour budgets
  • Is the webinar free?
    Yes. Completely free, no catch.
  • Will it be recorded?
Yes. Everyone who registers gets the recording, so you can rewatch the tricky bits.
  • Can I ask questions?
Please do, we encourage you to ask about anything on your mind related to workforce management and the Employment Rights Act 2025. There’s at least 10 minutes of live Q&A, and you can send a question when you register too.
  • Is this legal advice?
It's general information about the changes, not legal advice. For your specific situation, speak to an employment law professional. You'll have the opportunity to connect with our employment law specialist speaker.
